How PANOPT works

PANOPT — Situation Monitor for oil supply and conflict · panopt.online

Oil supply runs through a few places that conflict keeps reaching: the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea, the Black Sea terminals, and the pipelines and refineries around them. PANOPT puts satellite radar ship counts, facility heat, aircraft and GPS-interference readings beside the reporting on those conflicts. It gives dated reads of the Brent chart and of what each report means for oil supply. General information, not financial advice. No price forecasts.

Scored alerts

Since 8 Oct 2026 PANOPT scores headlines again, after a pause from 31 Aug: each alert says what the news means for oil and its knock-on effects, in plain words, and describes; it never tells anyone what to do. A free account sees each headline 30 minutes after it lands, without its score or analysis, and each weekly brief a week after it is published. Pro, which is not on sale yet, has them first.

What runs today

• The Situation Monitor — a map of 16 situations, rebuilt every 15 minutes. Its instruments include satellite heat at refineries and terminals, radar and optical ship counts at the chokepoints, military aircraft, GPS interference, internet outages, navigational warnings, airspace notices, sanctions lists and official stock data.
• Evidence grades — every reading says how it is known: Measured (an instrument saw it), Official (a government published it), Reported (a news wire), Claimed (a party to the conflict) or Indicated (a proxy). Where an instrument cannot see, the page says so; a blank is never a clean reading.
• The wire, unscored, while scoring is offline — stories from the feeds PANOPT reads, grouped by headline, each outlet listed and linked. No urgency, importance or confirmation is assigned, and the number of outlets is not a measure of corroboration.
• The weekly physical-flows brief — a page in the Terminal, with a PDF to keep: the radar counts, each area against its own median, with published crude-stock data.
• The Chokepoint Ledger — public, no account: the radar count of hulls at the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb on each satellite pass, beside the traffic figures governments, trackers and analysts have published, each graded by how it is known.
• The Strike Ledger — public, no account: the claims PANOPT holds that an oil refinery, terminal or pipeline was hit, linked to its source and graded by who made it, beside NASA's satellite fire detections at that plant on the nights around it. It does not rule on whether a strike happened.

Price integrity

The Brent chart runs on two independent price feeds that referee each other. If one feed breaks — serves a stale level or a phantom crash — it is quarantined and the other feed takes over. Prices shown are an indicative reference, not dealing prices.

What markets does PANOPT cover? Brent crude is the core focus, with WTI, gold and macro context tracked alongside. Coverage concentrates on the geopolitical drivers of oil: the Middle East, shipping chokepoints, OPEC+, sanctions and supply infrastructure.

Are alerts running? Yes, since 8 Oct 2026: headlines are scored as they arrive and appear in the Terminal's feed. Push alerts come with Pro, which is not on sale yet. The Monitor is rebuilt every 15 minutes, but each instrument keeps its own schedule: radar passes over a given strait come days apart, not minutes apart.

What does it cost? A free account costs nothing. It opens the Situation Monitor, the ledgers, the wire, each headline 30 minutes after it lands and each weekly brief a week after it is published.
